Thesis, Undergraduate (BA Social Science) -- U. P. in Mindanao

Four voice tapes of interviews on the experiences of the nine homosexual expatriates, which are taken from the unfinished work of a foreign student, became the subject of qualitative analysis for this study. The nine homosexual expatriates came in the Philippines to pursue their careers and at the same time, explore the gay lifestyle of the country. The four voice tapes were analyzed to help understand the gay lifestyle in the country. The study aimed to: 1.) look at the gay lifestyle in the Philippines, particularly in Manila as experienced by the nine homosexual expatriates 2) identify themes that may underlie the experiences of those who participated in the interview 3) generate hypothesis that may lead to more in-depth study of gay lifestyle. There are fewer restrictions in the practice of the gay lifestyle in the Philippines if compared to some of the countries were the interviewees come from. Filipino men were viewed by the interviewees as dependent and strongly held by family ties. Commercialism characterized the gay lifestyle in the Philippines wherein poverty had driven Filipino men to engage in commercial sex.
