Isolation and identification of entomogenous fungi / Elenee C. Rodriguez - 2002 - 30 leaves

Thesis (BS Biology) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2002

Dead and mummified insects under the class Pterygota, winged insects, were collected and placed in petri dishes with moistened filter paper. After 3 ? 5 days of incubation at room temperature, outgrowth of fungus was observed from the insect?s body. These entemogenous fungi were then isolated, purified and cultured on Potato Dextrose Agar medium. To identify the fungal isolates, the dichotomous key found in the book of Illustrated Genera of Imperfect Fungi was used. Ten of the isolated fungi were identified as Metarrhizium sp. Previous studies have identified these two genera as entemogenous fungi that could be used as microbial agents promoting the mortality of their insect-hosts
