There have been limited group process studies in the Philippines. Most of these were experimental which uses traditional laboratory methods. This study, an Ethnographic Study on the group Processes of Barangay Sirawan Council Members in Sirawan, Toril Davao City explored the group dynamics unique only the Sirawan Council members. By primarily observing the meeting and conducting interviews with the eleven barangay officials, various aspect of group processes such as participation, communication, influence, styles of influence, decision making procedures, leadership, feelings, and task-maintenance and self oriented behaviors were discussed and evaluated. High participators during the group meeting were shown to be more experienced in public governance. However, low participators were we the newly elected officials who only have limited background in public service. The group had used the inato style, which did not necessarily follow the standard meeting procedures thus, relaxing the flow of communication and allowing a more diverse interaction among the members in the group in the group. This study increases people?s knowledge and understanding about the group process and the uniqueness of group dynamics in the Philippine context because of Filipino values and culture.
