Thesis (BS Biology) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2003

Bird species richness was determined at a marginal habitat in Agusan Marsh, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur. Line transect was established along existing foot trails inside each of the three study sites namely: ricefield, secondary level wetland forest and sago stands. A total of 53 species in 34 families were resorced. Of these, 30 are resident, 12 are endemic, and are migratory. Three species listed was threatened were also encountered. Data showed that species richness was highest at the sago stands (32 species), due to the surrounding woodlands and ricefield. Endemic species were mostly observed in the secondary wetland forest (11 species), whereas ricefield contains most of the migratory species (9 species). Since each site supports different bird communities, any conservation action should be of maintaining a variety of vegetation types to provide a suitable habitat for bird species
