Thesis, Undergraduate (BA Communication Arts) -- U. P. in Mindanao

This research focus on the distribution of the grapevine information along the informal networks of the Surigao del Sur Electric Cooperative II in a context of an emergency. This study aimed to determine how did the grapevine moved across the three departments or SURCECO II during the accident of one of the members, Engr. Trimidal. This study also aimed to determine the factors affecting the members? participation in the grapevine. The researcher found that the informal network of SURCECO II, during the emergency, wasn?t divided into three departments. It functioned as a single network and the external groups functioned as the other networks of a larger system. The members? reason for sharing the information to another member were because of the person?s position, to seek for possible assistance, and to merely inform the officemates, to be prepared for the possible future action of the organization. The grapevine is more that a channel of communication which does not respect organizational hierarchy. It is an emerging system, generated by the interaction of individuals based on the given situation. It can never have a permanent structure because it changes depending on the situation in an organization.
