The research entitled historical preservation: revitalizing the present local urban context of San Pedro Street through new urbanism principles was primarily conducted to revitalize the present local urban context of San Pedro Street by incorporating valuable architectural concepts and new urbanism principles to address the existing problems, enhance the urban image and at the same time preserve its historical significance. In line with this, the proponent wanted to know the critical points that are necessary for the revitalization process. This research utilized quantitative and qualitative approach which included a visual analysis on the urban image of San Pedro Street as represented by the streetscape, landmarks, parks and open spaces, signage and building forms and façade. The urban structure which included the vehicular, pedestrian and parking movement frameworks were also assessed to determined the existing problems. With the aid of architectural concepts and new urbanism principles, the design solutions and design guidelines were formulated to address such problems. Based on the data gathered from this study, the imageability of the place is essential in creating spaces that are well-formed, has very distinct parts and are instantly recognizable by the common inhabitant. This is fundamental in the revitalization of the present urban context since the mental representations created in its assessment are generally dependent on the valuable architectural elements that make up the whole urban image of an urban space. To say, the urban image and urban structure along with essential architectural concepts and new urbanism principles are the necessary parameters for the revitalization process.
