Continuous water supply for domestic, agricultural and industrial water consumption is highly dependent on the quality of watersheds. Protection of watersheds from human and industrial threats will secure water supply for both present and future use. The Upper Saguing River Watershed and Forest Reserve Area (USRWFRA) is the major surface water source of Metro Kidapawan water District that supply potable water to Kidapawan City and neighboring municipalities of Magpet, Makilala and Matalam. Using contingent valuation method through dichotomous choice, open-ended approach, the study estimates the mean willingness to pay (WTP) of the household water consumers, and determine the factors that affect their WTP for watershed protection and management. The study found out that household water users, on average, are willing to pay additional amount of Ph 85.61 to their monthly water bill. Results of the Logit regression model showed that the likelihood of acceptance to the bid amount decreases as bid amount increases, while results of the Tobit regression model revealed that bid amount has a positive significant effect on the WTP due to removal of protest zero bid. Membership to environmental organizations higher years of formal schooling, awareness of watershed and its role in agricultural production significantly affect the maximum WTP. Moreover, many of water users were unaware of USRWFRA as a primary source of water that supplied their households. It is recommended that the water district should educate and inform the water users about the watershed and its importance in achieving sustainable water supply.
