Thesis (BA Communication Arts) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, June 2015

This production thesis was conducted to create an edutainment strategy incorporated with folk media in educating local cultural dance troupes of Davao City about the importance of proper representation of cultural dances to avoid misinformation to the public. The study only focused on the Ata tribe from Pacquibato District. The output was a cultural dance workshop entitled ? Panulo to Sayow 2015 (Learn to Dance 2015): an Ata Cultural Dance Workshop,? that happened on the 19th of April 2015 at the Lorenzo hall, Administrative Bldg., University of the Philippines Mindanao, Mintal, Tugbok District, Davao City. It was guided by the five (5) Key elements of Edutainment Strategy and the Social Learning Theory, the NCIP, the ATA tribe community, and five (5) local cultural dance troupes are primary subjects of the study. The workshop held lectures, a dance workshop of Kuglung and Saluruy, a cultural dance presentation, and evaluation. The need to obtain an FPIC permission from the tribal elders with the help of the FPIC Team from NCIP, learning the importance of cultural preservation, and a face-to-face learning of a cultural dance from legitimate tribal choreographers have become the edutainment strategy with incorporation of folk media that helped counteract misinformation due to misrepresentation of cultural dances. Accordingly, the edutainment strategy developed is applicable not only to the Ata Tribe and to their dance Kuglung and Saluruy, but to any cultural dance from cultural tribes found in Davao City.
