Summary, etc. In any industry, client satisfaction is important. The more satisfactory and/or pleasing a business or product is to clients, the more patronage it will garner from clients. Knowing what a client wants is important in the practice of architecture. To tailor the needs and wants of the client unto the design is essential in keeping utmost client satisfaction. In the pursuit of determining what clients truly want comes the role of the field of psychology. Psychologists use many tools in determining the identity of the self, and later on, determining the real behavior and the psyche of a person and this process of making the human psyche measurable is part of the branch called psychometrics.
Using the Five Factor Model of Personality as a psychometric tool, as well as a Housing Preference Questionnaire, the study aimed to develop a general design guide that catalogues different persons via their personality types along with their housing design preferences. The respondents were grouped according to their personality types as per the Five Factor Model (High/Low Extroversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism, Conscientiousness, and Openness to Experience). The design preferences of these people were then determined via the Housing Preference Questionnaire.
The resulting data were then analyzed using different techniques, with the general design preferences, the Spearman Rank Correlation Tool was used to determine the most preferred characteristics per personality type, and regular tally technique was used to determine the preferred finishes and color schemes. The results identified that each personality type each had a different set of design preferences and a different preferred color scheme.
