Summary, etc. |
The architecture of the Philippines is a reflection of a history, culture and heritage of the Philippines. However, certain culture do not appear as they are their communities and this is because of constraints. One such settlement is the mini-forest within the Boulevard Area which is occupied mostly by the Badjaos and Maranaos. The general physical character of their communities has commonly perceived in terms of a chaotic, haphazard pattern of growth resulting to the impression of chaos and disorder. This is further reinforced by congestion, lack of hygiene and general physical blight. If efforts are not made to resolve these problems and preserve their architectural footprints, Davao City shall forever suffer from identity crisis. The prime objective of this thesis is to determine solutions to improve the image of the Maranaos and Badjaos residing in the slum area of Davao City by revitalizing their community at the same time showcasing their architectural heritage. This thesis will look into the main factors or components (environmental economics or socio-cultural) present on the existing community of Maranaos and Badjaos in Isla Verde and find ways to design in response to the identified assets of their culture and at the same time promote their architectural heritage. The design will also focus on ways to build residential houses for the tribes. Three clustered communities were proposed for three tribal groups to reside, namely: Maranaos, Badjaos, and Cebuanos. Two communities then were provided with two house models each. Two torogan house designs were proposed for the Maranao Clustered Community and another two (Bangka and Dapang House) designs were proposed for the Badjao Clustered Community. |
