520 3# - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. All over the world, there are people who have been struck with thyroid illnesses. These people usually undergo numerous treatments called the Radioactive iodine treatment or more commonly known as RAI. These people become physically weak and in pain on the course of their treatment. It takes them weeks to months to fully recover their normal physical state. Normally, ailing people are given special care and attention to help them in their recovery. However, for these people who undergo RAI, they have to isolate themselves with others to avoid radiation exposure, thus leaving them with nobody to fully assist them in their recovery but their own selves. This study was made in the hope of improving the recovery stage of the RAI patients. In the recovery process it was assumed that the helpful elements of nature like the sun, fresh air and nature sounds can contribute greatly to the patients. The goal of the study was to identify the beneficial environmental conditions and incorporate them to the existing design of the treatment facility. Through the observation and interaction with the patients and medical persons concerned, it has been included that indeed, that an environment that is more open and interactive to nature can hasten the recovery of the patients. In addition, activities which are not tiresome yet can be considered as exercise for the body, mind and soul also serve as beneficial components to the patients' recovery. It is with this conclusion that created the basis for the improved facility for the patients. As opposed to the traditional and common designs of a treatment facility for RAI patients, a wholistic approach that integrates the treatment with the recovery stage has been infused to the improved facility. This new design shall cater to the people with the goal to provide a convenient, relaxing and stress free environment. Also, spaces for activities such as sports, entertainment and spiritual healing were included in the facility. With this facility, patients need not feel deprived of the comfort and convenience they need for their recovery.
