520 3# - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Goat farming in Davao Region is just a small portion of the goat industry in the Philippines. This study was conducted to determine the potential of goats using technical efficiency and industry analyses. More specifically, the study tends to determine the key players of the industry, identify the issues and problems within the production, identify the factors and their relationships that affect its production, and to device strategies and recommendations to improve the industry. Data gathered were both primary and secondary. Methods used were Data Envelopment Analysis, Cobb-Douglas Production Function, and Industry Analysis. According to the results, three out of the eleven farms were said to be efficient in live goat production. On the other hand, seven farms were said to be efficient in live goat production. On the other hand, seven farms were said to be efficient in milk production. However, in live goat production aspect, only two factors are significant , which is the number of goats and the farm size. Conversely, there were no significant variables in the milk aspect. Some of the possible factors that can affect production are the climate, government intervention, and the breeds. Issues have been determined and addressed. These include internal and external factors that can affect goat production. The paper also incorporated some strategies to improve the industry as well as the study.
