Summary, etc. |
As the Mindanao region especially Davao metropolitan Area looks to improve transit choices and seeks to upgrade existing transit service, the safety of transit users needs to be an issue that is considered carefully as each new service is added, old services changed, and new stations will be added. This thesis is intended to be a source for adding information about the new transit service in Davao Metropolitan Area and in other region of Mindanao. It does not address the safety of the transit vehicle itself. It focuses on the design of the transit environments regarding pedestrian mobility, safety and comfort as they impact the personal safety and mobility of transit users. This thesis present that there were gender differences in preference for mobility moreover no gender difference in preference for safety. In preference for mobility peak hours versus off peak hours has much of difference thus preference for safety was stronger during off-peak hours. Preference for mobility was higher at day thus preference for place of safety was lower at night. The thesis looks at site specific physical design issues, that is, public areas within the station to station design. But it also goes beyond to address the nature of the larger environment in which the transit station is located. Issues of access are also addressed because of characters of the pathways leading to and from transit stations are integral parts of the transit environment. Layout of hallways and corridors, designing nodes, station area, and the station physical description and design elements will reflect pedestrian perceptions on mobility, safety and security for the optimization of the LRT station building. The proposed Davao Metropolitan Light Rail Transit Station address the ongoing struggle of perceptions of pedestrian mobility, safety and comfort and makes recommendations that can offer better perceptions of mobility, safety and comfort to increase overall activity, especially in and around LRT station route. |
