Summary, etc. |
This study was conducted to evaluate the social enterprise's role in instituting women empowerment, thus identifying the actions made by the enterprise to facilitate women empowerment. Specifically, the study is designed to assess if there was a "match" between DOCHSEi's initiatives for women and as to how women feel about women empowerment. In attaining this, modified Women Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) was employed in the study, followed by the utilization of Tobit Regression to determine the significant regressors affecting women's empowerment. WEAI results revealed that the average empowerment score of women working in DOCHSEi is 62. According to the standards set by WEAI, one can only be considered empowered if a score of at least 85 was acquired. Hence, neither of the DOCHSEi women workers was empowered. More so, as presented in the Tobit model, the focal point of the empowerment of women is associated with their employment. The greater satisfaction women get in their work, the higher the possibility of enabling an empowerment individual. A thousand Peso increase in income would increase the empowerment value by 2.07257 since ideally, income aids in sustaining the welfare of an individual as it provides the basic needs for survival and serves as mechanism for a woman to get involved in various activities that would help improve herself. However, an increase in household size would result to the decrease of empowerment value by 1.514127 since additional expenses are to be incurred in a household, limiting the female's resources in terms of financial and the availability of time. |
