Summary, etc. This production thesis aimed to localize the video essay as a medium of discourse for visual media especially local films. It explored the process of crafting a video essay and the visual and rhetorical elements that could be used to present discourse through the visual medium. The researcher also considered the limitations and strengths of the video essay on the use of radio in the four feature films of Mindanaon filmmaker Gutierrez Mangansakan II. This thesis was guided by visual rhetoric, especially in making the video essay. The researcher looked into the visual and rhetorical elements that could be employed. The process of crafting a video essay can be encapsulated into three steps: analyzing the films, writing the script by using the two-column split-page video script format, and ultimately, editing the video essay. The localization of this emerging genre through the 7-minute video essay produced in this production thesis is significant especially in the study of Mindanao cinema. It has been recognized in other countries as a revolutionary way of looking, analyzing, and discussing films. And with the limited literature on Mindanao cinema, the video essay is integral in the development and full realization of our cinema as an important one especially in the discourse of the conflict in Mindanao. Furthermore, because of the visual nature of this genre, the discourse can potentially become more accessible and more democratic for readers ? or viewers, in this case.
