Summary, etc. Cacao as one of the most important cash crops and commodity in the global market, has been facing production constraints in the recent years. Several measures have been made in order to determine the factors that are causing the inefficiencies in production. Thus, this study investigates this issue by looking into the technical efficiency of smallholder cacao farmers in Davao City, Philippines as well as the factors affecting such efficiency. The study used a two-stage analysis. The first stage underwent Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and revealed that the majority of the farmers in the study area are technically inefficient. Employing Tobit Regression Analysis for the second stage, the farmer's membership to an organization, and herbicide use appeared to significantly affect the level of technical efficiency of the farmers. The study further revealed that those farmers who sold only dry beans are the most efficient and profitable. Recommendations of this study include conduct of additional farmer training programs, development of farmer-based organizations, and increased availability of drying facilities.
