Summary, etc. The future of the Philippine agriculture is currently in question. Just like many developing countries, Philippines is challenged to find the efficient solution to ensure food sustainability with respect to its growing population. The uptrend of its population size concerns the aging farmers on how to meet the increasing local demand for food. In this study, two factors are highly considered by the researcher; a) the Filipino farmers are a dying breed, and b) Filipino youth's engagement towards agriculture remains a challenge to the country. With this condition, Philippine agriculture is at risk. One of the rising agricultural industries in the country is the cacao. The country's industry is facing production constraints despite its competitive advantage. This is mainly due to the low farm productivity dominated by aging, smallholder cacao producers using outdated farming techniques. In this case, the long term due of the potential of the industry is highly in question. Hence, this study is initiated to promote the development and engagement of the youth through assessing their participation and identifying the factors militating their interests in the local agriculture in Calinan, Davao City, using probit regression model analysis. Results indicated that Age, Household Size, Household Income, Parent's Age, and Agricultural Knowledge statistically and significantly determined the participation of the youth in agriculture. Among the variables, agricultural knowledge highly influenced the youth's choice to participate. The importance of agricultural knowledge signified the need to disseminate information among the youth. This could be done through forming rural youth organization to establish stable flow of agricultural information. Also, it was found out that their perception towards agriculture drives their attitude upon deciding to engage and venture towards it. Their perceptions were mainly influenced by their personal experiences and observation in the sector throughout their exposure. Furthermore, the low involvement of the rural youth in cacao farming highly accentuates the need to increase their to venture in farming.
