Two formulations were tried. Formulation 2, which consist of 5% meat and bone dust extract, 5% glucose, and 0.1% salt solution, yielded a microbial growth that is not significantly different from the growth in MRS medium. The formulated MBD broth is cheaper by 77.10% than MRS medium. This also provides for a better way of utilizing meat and bone dust. The possibility of using spectrophotometric method in estimating microbial concentration was also evaluated. MBD and MRS media were tested. However, turbidimetric measurement is not possible due to precipitation of large meat components after sterilization, thus only the MRS was used. Results indicate that a linear relationship exists between absorbance and number of cells. The correlation coefficient obtained was 72%. The regression formula was Y=-1.942 + 0.237X. this formula can be used to estimate concentration of P. acedilactici in MRS broth given the absorbance. This method is relatively simple and less expensive
