Identification of bacteria with ligninocellulose-degrading enzymes isolated from mangroves in Calatagan, Batangas and Pagbilao, Quezon / Robalyn B. Buensalida

By: Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Publication details: 2003Description: 56 leavesSubject(s): Dissertation note: Thesis (BS Biology) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2003 Summary: Seventy bacterial isolates from batangas and Quezon mangroves were screened for xylanase activity and for the presence of lignin-modifying enzymes (LMEs). Fourteen isolates tested positive for LME but none of the isolates were positive for xylanase. The isolates were further identified using morphological and biochemical tests. The isolates were identified as Bacillus cereus, Micrococcus kristinae, Corynebacterium sp., and two were classified under the Coryneform group. Applicable API system was also used to biochemically characterize non-enteric and enteric bacterial isolates, which were subsequently identified as, Orchobacterium anthropic, Sphingomonas paucimobilis, Chryseomonas indologenes (two strains), Chryseomonas luteola (two strains), Aeromonas hydrophila/caviae, and Enterobacter cloacae
