By: Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Publication details: 2000Description: 22 leavesSubject(s): Dissertation note: Thesis (BS Biology) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2000 Summary: This study aimed to investigate the morphological changes in Canna generalis variety ?Richard Wallace? microspores at different stages of flower development. Anthers from collected flower buds were excised and fixed in Farmer?s solution. Slide preparations of microspores were done through the squash method. Microsporocytes with small, centrally-located nuclei were found in closed anthers. Uninucleated microspores with evident exine were predominant in newly-cleaved anthers. Binucleated and uninucleated microspores were found in the late stage of cleaved anthers. The pollen grains released at dehiscence were binucleated. It was also observed that dehiscence coincides with anthesis
