Initial studies on in vitro spore germination of cyathea contaminans (Hook.) Copel. / Jhoanavi R. Mangubat

By: Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Publication details: 2002Description: 35 leavesSubject(s): Dissertation note: Thesis (BS Biology) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2002 Summary: Spores of C. contaminans were cultured in R and MS media with varying concentrations of the plant growth regulators (PGRs) kinetin and naphtha leneacetic acid (NAA), to initiate germination of plantlets and determine factors affecting in vitro propagation. Spores sown in R and MS media were able to germinate 20 days after inoculation. Kinetin was found to be the major factor involved in spore germination. The NAA is not essential because spores were still able to germinate on media without NAA. Data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance in a 2 x 5 factorial experiment in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with unequal replication and Duncan?s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Statistical analysis showed that the kind of culture media and its interaction were not significant. however, the kind and concentration of PGRs were significant at 5% level during the first 40 days of observation
