P. in Mindanao Abstract: Pagpangandam sa Katalagman: Designing a Disaster Preparedness Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Wall Calendar for Households in Davao City is a print production thesis that created a 12-sheet calendar which particularly aims to inform, encourage and remind households of necessary disaster preparedness activities in a household setting. The fact remains that the city is still prone to disasters especially now that a global climate phenomenon is occurring. Hence, there is need to strengthen preparedness within the family since disasters can most likely target at a household. The principles and fundamentals of visual design were used in the overall production of the IEC wall calendar. Moreover, the overall concept of the IEC calendar took into consideration the informational need, the target audience and the message/s it should convey. An IEC Production Guidelines also served as a guide in the designing of the IEC calendar. The disaster preparedness IEC wall calendar primarily featured photographs, and other necessary elements of visual design. The monthly information was based on these 3 considerations: (1) data gathered from different agencies, (2) national events/celebrations and (3) situations that can likely occur in that month. Each element of the calendar, such as the color, photograph, typography, etc. was carefully decided to effectively achieve the objectives of the study. The IEC calendar can then be used as a tool for disaster preparedness information campaigns, especially intended for households. This will serve as a guide for households in the context of disaster management. Calendars, then, must not only be used for promotional/advertising purposes, it should also be considered as a medium for education and awareness.
