By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Description: xii, 126p. illustrationsSubject(s): Summary: This study is an analysis of the Rice production in Mindanao and its Regions from 1986 to 2006. Specifically, it aims to: (a) understand the industry of the rice sector in the Philippines; (b) discuss the industry of rice sector in MIndanao; (c) identify the issues in the rice sector in Mindanao; (d) examine the trend of production for sac region in Mindanao and its factors; (e) assess the factors that affect the level of production for each region and Mindanao as a whole; and (f) compare the results of the assessment among regions. The panel data set show the time-series data of the six explanatory variables utilized in the model. To analyze and understand the relationship among the variables utilized in the model. To analyze and understand the relationship among the variables, an economic model was specified. The variables include the total rice production which is the dependent variable while the independent variables are the cost of fertilizer, transport inputs, labor cost, irrigated areas, capacity of threshers, and mechanical dryers. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was utilized for the regression results. Although generally, autocorrelation was not present, all regions exhibit multicollinearity including Mindanao as a whole. A stepwise regression was used to correct the derived regression results. The results show that for each region, the level of rice production is significantly determined by a different set of independent variables. As a whole, however, the variables, total number irrigated areas affects the rice production of each region in MIndanao as well as that of the whole Mindanao.
