By: Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Publication details: Davao City : School of Management, University of the Philippines Mindanao, c2008.Description: vii, 55 leavesSubject(s): Summary: CL Woodcraft and Furniture is one of the micro operations in furniture industry. It is sole proprietorship by the owner-manager, Mr. Cleofas Canoy, in Tagum City. The study intended to evaluate CL Woodcraft and Furniture, identify the environmental threats and opportunities confronting it and assess its strengths and weaknesses and other possible factors to the company?s success or failure in the next five years. The first among the problems encountered by the company is with personnel. There is a high turnover rate of labor causing loss of skilled workers. Second is in marketing that is too dependent on job orders of woodcraft products that causes destructive competition among woodcarvers. The diminishing supply of wood that increases its price is the root of the third problem. Finally, the absence of monitoring and collection mechanism is another problem. The identified strengths of CL Woodcraft and Furniture are skilled owner-manager, maintained quality image of its products, unity among workers and staff, established regular buyers of the products and the ability of the firm to finance its business with the owner?s capital. On the other hand, high dependence of the firm on job orders, lack of proper budgeting procedure, lack of machineries and lack of storage facilities at the production area are among the listed weaknesses of the firm. The continuous boom in economy and stronger currencies, continuous growth rate in furniture exports, and stale political environment in Davao City are among the opportunities for the woodcraft and furniture industry found in the study. However, the total log ban and price increase of commodities are the main threats of wood industry. CL Woodcraft and Furniture plans to have financial backup required to be able to tap foreign markets, upgrade and buy production and storage facilities, have stricter collection measure to avoid unpaid products and unite with other woodcraft and furniture firms to avoid destructive competition.
