Abstract: The study focuses on obtaining the preference of users in library design and amenities, of which includes determining the recreational activities that could be added in designing libraries which would be used to establish a new concept for library design in Davao City. Globally, the need to institute a new image for libraries that shall incorporate new technologies and a new generation of users has been up and about for years now and yet the Philippines has yet to start this revitalization. To obtain this data, six (6) study areas in Davao City was established and survey questionnaires for four hundred eighty-six (486) respondents were handed out. Key-informant interview for librarians from each of the study areas were also pursued as supplementary information for the study. Results show that there are several factors hindering a user from using their libraries. Of these, the major factors cited are location and accessibility. Respondents were also not against the establishment of recreational spaces in libraries, and results show that most respondents favored having a café inside the library. Other spaces to be included in the library design are the group study areas, individual study areas, game room, presentation rooms, and audio-visual (AV) rooms. The results from the study are vital in understanding the spaces needed that shall help motivate users in visiting the library. Such knowledge will be the key principle in the establishment of the design considerations for the ?new? library image in Davao City.
