By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextPublication details: 2014Description: 49 leavesSubject(s): Dissertation note: Thesis (BA Communication Arts) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, June 2014 Abstract: The study in this thesis is about the use of Social Web Applications such as Facebook as a supplement to traditional learning. The study was set in UP Mindanao with the cooperation to the instructors and students under the BA Communication Arts program. The researcher with permission from the instructors, conducted surveys and observed the interaction and discussions in supplemental online classrooms. The researcher determined, through the surveys, that the experience in the use of Web Applications in conjunction with traditional learning was below the median rating. The cause of this was attributed to its lack of use by the students as a traditional classroom supplement. The discussions in the online classrooms also showed that students answered graded discussions as comprehensively as they could. However, informal messages were used in topic discussions. Furthermore, the researcher concluded that the use of non-institutionalized Web applications could benefit students and instructors. Not only in sharing additional information through supplemental online classrooms but also in giving students a place where they can discuss topics related to the subject they learned in their traditional classroom.
