The Institute for Small-Scale Industries (ISSI) was established in 1966 as a joint project between the Royal Government of the Netherlands and the Republic of the Philippines. It became an organic part of the University of the Philippines in 1969 with the enactment of Republic Act 6041. UP ISSI pioneered in stimulating, promoting, and developing the small-scale industry sector. Being the forerunner in the enterprise development, the Institute designed and implemented entrepreneurship, management consultancy, regional industrial development training, and low-cost automation courses. Along with its training efforts, UP ISSI engaged in small industry research and industrial consultancy activities for small businesses and industry group. Through the years, UP ISSI has always been on the lookout for growth gaps in the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector and filling these with innovative training, research, and consultancy activities. For more than four decades now, the UP ISSI continues to perform its role as a steadfast advocate and ally of the sector.
