Establishing the imageability and legibility of the Benoni seaport in Camiguin Island / Pamela L. Bao - 2009 - 147 leaves

Thesis (BS Architecture) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2009

The tourism industry of Camiguin Island makes it known to the world. It is the factor that keeps pulling tourists to keep on coming. The Island offers a one-stop shop with its diverse natural tourists' spots and architectural heritage ? its old houses. These old houses exhibit distinct okkil that makes them more valuable and unique. They speak so much of the Island's history and this what makes the Island known. However, most of these old houses are left unmaintained and some of which are left to ruin. Despite the island's beauty this is not being manifested on its entrance corridor- the Benoni Seaport. This must be the first stop to manifest what the Island really is. The image of the Island is nowhere to be found in the current seaport so is the legibility which is critical issue in seaports. The only way to establish the seaport's imageability and legibility is through town integration using character appraisal and visual survey of the setting as tools. It is in knowing what the Island is integrating it to the seaport's design that imageability and legibility of the Benoni Seaport could be achieved.
