Emilia, Veruela, Agusan del Sur PY - 2004/// KW - Undergraduate Thesis KW - BIO200, KW - BSB N1 - Thesis (BS Biology) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2004 N2 - The diversity of pteridophyte species in Brgy. Sta. Emilia was determined. The species were sampled using the Modified Whittaker Method from two forest types: secondary and regenerated forests. A total of 19 identified fern species and three unidentified fern species were obtained from forests, none of which are endemic. Nine species were sampled uniquely to the secondary forest, four species including the three-unidentified species from the regenerated forest and nine species were found in both forests. These numbers consequently gave fern families of which Polypodiaceae dominates having six representative species. The species richness is relatively high given the 19 species sampled and evenness values of 0.78 and 0.83 for secondary and regenerated forests, respectively. These values indicate a high diversity as supported also by the Shannon-Wiener and Simpson?s diversity values. Shannon-Wiener gave 0.92 and 0.62, while Simpson?s generated 0.84 and 0.77 for secondary and regenerated forests, respectively. A comparison of the sites using the Quotient of Similarity revealed that these two sampling sites (regenerated and secondary forests) are not so similar indicated by the 0.55 computed value. Fern species in the site are not so popularly consumed by the townsfolk ER -
