Caused by two general groups of symptoms: Obsession is an intrusive and unwelcome thought, urge and image (e.g. obsessions about germs and harm); compulsion is a covert or overt mental act and behavior that is performed repetitively (e.g. excessive hand washing and doorknob checking). These obsessions and compulsions are uncontrollable and in time consuming, causing panic attacks and extreme distress to an individual and may lead to suicidal thoughts and attempts. OCD is a medical term yet this term was undermined by loosely using the term ?OC? as everyday laymen word. The misuse of the term also contributes to the confusion of the difference between OCD and ?OC? and that of the personality disorder OCPD. Lack of proper awareness causes people to neglect the psychological implications of the worrisome disorder, as well as the needs and treatment of the affected. In the baseline survey and focus group discussions conducted by the researcher among the students and even among the faculty members at the University of the Philippines Mindanao, results show that there is lack of proper knowledge about OCD, and of its difference with OCPD, while overlapping both by misusing the term ?OC?. This dissertation examines the use of a 6-minute informal video through Lego stop-motion animation to spread awareness about OCD. The researcher also conducted a seminar in the university to showcase the presentation of the informational video and a lecture from a psychiatrist about the disorder. The researcher concludes that the use of Lego as the main character in the video which serves as the mascot of the entire production, was able to deliver the message about OCD through proper application of the media aesthetics. The researcher also concludes that the production of the video together with the seminar created an awareness campaign be done to spread awareness about OCD. The researcher would also like to recommend the use of the other media forms in communicating OCD and other mental or personality disorders ER -
