N2  - Fishing is the main source of protein for millions of people globally. It is also the economically important with millions of people relying on the industry for livelihood. However, marine resources are currently declining and threatened by the pressing issue of unsustainable fishing activities along with other factors, such as climate change, increasing population, and marine pollution. These called for the establishments of MPAs, closed fishing seasons, and alternative livelihood programs for fishers as solutions. In Davao Gulf, a closed fishing season was imposed in 2014 for the protection of highly exploited small pelagic fishes. The study aimed to understand the willingness of fisherfolks to participate in tourism-related activities as a supplemental livelihood, especially during closed season. Logistic regression model and a key informant interview were used to identify and explain factors affecting willingness. The results showed that fishing communities in San Isidro and Governor Genero are willing to participate. The significant variables in San Isidro are LGU as the source of information of closed season, distance from house to nearby resort, perceived no changes in fishy supply, and awareness that barangay is part of Davao Gulf. Meanwhile in GovGen, willingness to participate in beach maintenance, distance from house to fishing ground, and household income are found significant. The paper also revealed that beach maintenance and diving are the most viable tourism activities for fishers in both study areas
