Isolation and morphological characterization of aerobic and facultative anaerobic mercury-resistant bacteria along the banks of Nabok River, Mt. Diwalwal, Davao del Norte, Philippines / Verna-Marie G. Monsanto - 2001 - 43 leaves

Thesis (BS Biology) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2001

Aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria were isolated from the sediments of Nabok River, a water body near the Diwalwal mining areas. The morphological characterization of the bacterial isolates obtained indicates the presence of 4 distinct bacterial genus. Subjection of the bacterial isolates in different levels of mercury (0, 10, 20, and 30 ppm) reveals that the bacterial isolates can live in environments with mercury contents ranging from 0 to 30 ppm mercury. The tentative generic identification of the bacterial isolates are: Klebsiella, Pseudomana, Corynebacterium, and Streptomyces. Further morphological, as well as physiological and biochemical tests are recommended to verify the genera of the isolates and determine their specific identities
