Limacodids associated with sago palm (Metroxylon sagu Rottb.) / Josephine T. Ebana - 2005 - 40 leaves

Thesis (BS Biology) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2005

A series of sampling within a 15-month period was conducted in five areas of Agusan del Sur (Pulang Lupa in Trento, Tagbayangbang and Mambalili in Bunawan, Padigusan in Rosario and Bah-bah in Prosperidad) to determine the limacodid moth species feeding on sago palm foliage. Nine species were reckoned namely (in order of frequency): Setora longifurca (9), Setora tagalog (6), Birthamoides circinatus (5), Darna mindanensis (1) and Penthocrates sp. (1). Limacodid infestation on sago was from trace to negligible, except that of Penthocrates sp., which was reported in the early months of 2001 as serious in a small patch of sago satands in Tagbayangbang. However, its incidence in the area during the 15-month sampling period was very minimal. A tachinid, chaetoxerista javana was found to parasitize S. tagalog while a fungus was suspected to infect a B. circinatus larva
