By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Publication details: 2015Description: 284 leavesSubject(s): Dissertation note: Thesis (BS Architecture) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2015 Abstract: Primarily, the aim of this study was to develop an architectural baseline data of the identified ancestral houses that are 50 years and over of age in Glan, Sarangani Province. Developing a resource book on these ancestral houses plays a vital role in the continuing cultural mapping of the said historical town. The location of the site is at Barangay Poblacion in Glan, Sarangani Province and the researcher was able to document 47 ancestral houses by photo documenting, measuring, and providing descriptions on architectural elements ? site and setting, exterior materials, exterior features, interior features, and special requirements. The historical background data of these houses were also gathered through personal interviews with the owners. The gathered data were then provided with architectural descriptions and computer-aided plans and 3D models. Conclusively, the researcher was able (1) to provide an in-depth architectural baseline data of 47 documented ancestral houses and (2) to identify the commonalities on the architectural features of these ancestral houses that can be integrated into the future tourism developments of the town. A wider range of documenting old structures, not only on their architectural aspect but also to the cognitive and sociocultural behavior of the building owners and the community, provides higher sense of understanding of the attitude of people towards heritage preservation and conservation.
