By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Publication details: 2015Description: 227 leavesSubject(s): Dissertation note: Thesis (BS Architecture) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2015 Abstract: Through this study, the researcher intends to provide tourist management guidelines in coastal areas through the projection of tourism accommodation capacity of General Luna to help lessen the negative impacts of tourism in these areas, which has been in continuous danger of deterioration every year. Siargao Island contains the largest mangrove reserves in Mindanao and is also known as the Surfing Capital of the Philippines specifically because of General Luna's surfing spots. The study has gathered information from the existing 20 beach resorts in General Luna. The information gathered covers the following data: existing condition, corrective factors, physical carrying capacity, optimum carrying capacity and tourism accommodation capacity. These informations were calculated and analyzed through the formulae of Cifuentes and Ceballos-Lascurain with some adjustments by Nghi et al and with the consideration of Carrying Capacity Index. The study established several guidelines regarding ideal setbacks, measurements and number of rooms in General Luna's coastal areas. Other municipalities in Siargao Island could use the corrective factors and other equations found in this study. Otherwise, other coastal areas could create another survey for the corrective factors found in their area. It is also recommended to repeat this study after a few years in order to check the difference in the corrective factors found in the area.
