By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Publication details: 2021Description: 115 leavesSubject(s): Dissertation note: Thesis (Master in Management) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, July 2021 Summary: The cooperative movement started its early years aiming to improve the lives of its members and also protect their interests. In Davao City, one of the pioneering cooperatives is the Davao City Multipurpose Cooperative (DCMC) established in 1967 with the sole purpose of extending charity works to the less fortunate. Over the years, the cooperative has evolved offering various services with its savings and credit as its mainline of business. DCMC became a billionaire with a total asset of 1,591,759.949 in 2020. The continued growth of the cooperative is credited to its members who actively support the business activities of the organization making DCMC one of the biggest cooperatives in Davao City. Success does not come without challenges. The external and internal analysis conducted has highlighted the issues and problems of the cooperative that are of significant importance. Based on the industry analysis, the cooperative has slow growth in assets and membership. One reason for this is because the cooperative is not that aggressive in expanding to other locations as compared to its competitor. The presence of other cooperatives offering almost the same products and services to members is also one of the challenges of DCMC since their existence will decrease its market share. As to membership, the cooperative has an aging population with 34.71% in membership belonging to the 60 and above age bracket. This is an alarming situation since the majority of its members may reduce soon if no drastic action will be taken by the cooperative immediately. The strategies discussed in this paper will evolve on how those major issues will be addressed. It will focus on branching to different parts of Davao City and nearby areas with the Calinan branch referred to as the next branch of DCMC. It will also introduce the digital road map of the cooperative wherein technology will have a big role in the cooperative's daily operation. By launching the web and mobile application of DCMC, it will entice more members targeting the younger generation and it will give the members more convenience in transacting business with the cooperative. This digital road map will bring a competitive advantage to the cooperative over its major competitors. The cooperative will also improve its services using data-driven strategies/decisions through the implementation of a cooperative data management system.
