By: Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Description: 68 leavesSubject(s): Dissertation note: Thesis, Undergraduate (BA Communication Arts) -- U. P. in Mindanao Abstract: Global warming is threatening ours and other living things' existence right now. Because of human activities that are not actually environment- friendly, this climate change will put all of us in critical danger of dying since adapting to this rapid change is near to impossible. Nations around the world are doing their part, including the Philippines, in educating their constituents about conserving the planet. This practice-led research was my own contribution to the campaigns against global warming. With the target audience audience of elementary pupils in Davao City, I wanted to educate the young ones so they would learn to care for nature and hopefully not to commit the same mistakes the adults made. The komiks was the medium of this environmental message because it was the perfect tool to reach the intended audience, and according to research studies, it was an effective instructional material. But my study focused on creating characters that were identifiable to the target audience, and developing a storyline for the komiks that would teach elementary pupils the concept involving global warming in simplified manner. Four main characters that were elementary pupils with four defining characteristics were created. As more depth was put to these protagonists, I developed the story's premise into a treatment. And because this was a komiks, which obviously meant the visuals of the characters mus be considered, someone help to draw to life the concepts and rough sketches made of the characters. There were two sketches made of each characters.: one: in their school uniforms, and the other, in their superhero getups. In the end, the characters were mainly based on real people with certain characteristics that I had met throughout my years in school, and were coupled with the theories on children's thinking and behaviors that I had studied. For the scientific concepts of global warming, I used a villain to show simply its causes and is effects. The fantasy-type storyline told the battle of four children to save their place from an entity bent on destroying their home.
