Specifically, how the eating disorder anorexia nervosa was framed through identifying the format of the videos, the use of visual elements and the solution and casual claim of each video. The study is the qualitative-quantitative media content analysis and is guided by the Framing Theory by Erving Goffman. The sample videos that are included are the top 20 highest viewed anorexia nervosa videos that are in English, non-music videos and contain anorexia nervosa information. The analyses of the videos reveal that the top 20 highest viewed anorexia nervosa videos framed anorexia negatively. All of the videos portray anorexia as a deadly eating disorder that causes an individual to do unhealthy behaviors to lose weight. Although results are generally positive, it was noticed that there are certain elements that could possibly go against the message conveyed and promote negative stereotypes and stigmatization among people diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. Fisher?s Exact Test is also employed to measure the significant association among variables. Results show that there are variables that are significantly associated and there are some variables that are not. Further, findings suggest that similar to other health studies on Youtube the prevalence of false information is evident and should be looked at by healthcare and media practitioners.
