For the fiberboards, instead of using Urea Formaldehyde (UF), Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) were used as binder. Three formulations were used for the formaldehyde-free durian fiberboards (FFDF): (1) 20% Durian Fiber and 80%-4% PVA, (2) 20% Durian Fiber and 80%-6% PVA, and (3) 20% Durian Fiber and 80% -8% PVA. The material samples undergone tests to have their acoustical, and thermal properties observed. This study used the reverberation chamber method to obtain values used to compute for Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) and Sound Transmission Class (STC), and Lee's Disc Method to obtain values used to compute for thermal conductivity (k-value), and thermal resistivity (R-value). The results based on the acoustical properties of the material samples show that raw dried durian husks (RDDH) used as drywall panelboards obtained an NRC Rating of 0.50, and STC Rating of 10; FFDF-1 obtained an NRC Rating of 0.05, and an STC Rating of 40; FFDF-2 obtained an NRC Rating of 0.50, and an STC Rating of 12; and FFDF-3 obtained an NRC Rating of 0.40, and an STC Rating of 20. Among all boards subjected to acoustical tests, FFDF-1 has the highest STC Rating. The results based on the thermal properties of the material samples show that FFDF-1 yielded a k-value of 0.11651, and R-value of 0.159132: FFDF-2 yielded a k-value of 0.121349, and R-value of 0.106762; FFDF-3 yielded a k-value of 0.142157, and R-value of 0:090436. For the k value, the lower the better and for the R-value, the higher the better. Among all boards, FFDF-1 had the lowest k-value and highest R-value. This study concluded that among all boards, FFDF-1 exhibited best results for all the tests. FFDF-1 can be applied as interior wall insulation, or interior finishes. However, it cannot be applied for exterior purposes since the boards are prone to deformation when exposed to heat and excessive moisture."
