502 _aThesis (BA Communication Arts) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, June 2015
520 3 _aThe University of the Philippines Mindanao is one of research universities in the island that studies and produces different scientific products aimed to make people?s lives easier and more convenient. The development of these products has been very fast and becoming bigger over the years. Because of this, this research paper explored the possibility of introducing the scientific products to the market through the application of science communication ? a discipline that integrates the fields of marketing and advertising in making the ultimate beneficiary; the general public understands the cause of these scientific products. Using the potential of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) as a Biopreservative as case point, science communication is used to communicate the uses and benefits of products of scientific discovery to different institutions and organizations and to the target audience. Since LAB is a Biopreservative is a breakthrough and still on its introductory stage, product differentiation was applied to set its attributes distinct from its other competitors. After the extensive interview and survey in Barangay Mintal, the sample population of this research, results has shown that Biopreservatives were considered as natural, organic, and healthy alternative to the commercial preservative. Aside from that, the result of a brief and informal interview with the developer, Ms. Krizia Faye Calumba, a graduate of BS Food Technology in the same University would strengthen the popularization of the scientific product as it can also act as an antimicrobial material that prevents development of food borne microbes that spoils and changes the quality of raw pork products. All in all, these communication techniques and key features of Biopreservatives were incorporated in the Research-Objectives-Programming-evaluation (ROPE) process of the communication plan that serves as a guide in making the general public understand its advantages. As a result, a sample communication plan using the potential of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) as a Biopreservative was produced.
