520 _aButterfly species found in accessed forestall areas of two selected barangays adjacent to Agusan Marsh, Kaliloan and Tagbayangbang, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur were inventoried. During the six visits to the sample sites over an 18-month period, a total of 62 butterfly species were recorded (48 species in Kaliloan and 33 species in Tagbayangbang). The recorded number of butterfly species under the Lepidoptera family in the two sites were the following: Nymphalidae (Kaliloan-23; Tagbayangbang -17), Papilionidae (Kaliloan-5; Tagbayangbang-7), Pieridae (Kaliloan-4; Tagbayangbang-3), Lycaenidae (Kaliloan-4; Tagbayangbang-2), and Unidentified (Kaliloan-2; Tagbayangbang-4). Ecological sampling conducted in two barangays (0700 to 1700, three times, three different months) yielded the following information in species diversity (Shannon Weiner Index), dominance (Simpson?s Index), and community similarly (Jaccard?s Index). Kaliloan has slightly higher butterfly species diversity (H?=2.46) than Tagbayangbang (H?-2.14). Tagbayangbang has slightly dominant butterfly species (^=0.19) than Kaliloan (^=0.14) this may be attributed to several factors among which could be the difference in topography and existing vegetation, insect breeding environment, absence or presence of host plants and the degree of human disturbance in the two sites. The butterfly communities in the two sites were not closely similar as Jaccard?s Index (CCj=0.36) shows. In both sites, the most active time of the day of butterflies is from 0900 to 1500. Lower figures of butterflies in flight were recorded in the early morning (0700 to 0900) as the insects are just starting to come out to forage and in the late afternoon (1500 to 1700) obviously on their way to roost
