Summary, etc. In this study, the researcher analyzes Duterte?s War on Drugs memes through the methods of content and thematic analyses in order to: (1) identify which meme designing elements are salient or frequently employed, (2) distinguish the significant and insignificant relationships of these features amongst each other, and lastly (3) ascertain the persuasive qualities of the political internet memes through the determining of themes and the construction of visual arguments. Forty (40) War on Drugs memes were collated for this study, assessed and analyzed according to their type message and context. The researcher discussed the possible meanings for each relevant meme feature, and construed personal explanations for the significant and insignificant relationships determined from the categorical data analysis. The results derived from the thematic analysis suggest that the meme?s ability to induce visual enthymemes (the rhetorical quality of inviting the spectator to actively engage in determining the implicit arguments of each visual) as the determining cause for the meme makers? portrayal of Duterte?s War on Drugs to the online public.
