By: Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Publication details: 2008Description: 100 leavesSubject(s): Dissertation note: Thesis (BS Architecture) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2008 Abstract: Undiagnosed attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) appear like a failure in parenting. It is a failure for the parents because they are helpless to enforce discipline on a headstrong, extremely mischievous, seemingly uncontrolled child. Conditions like ADHD are classified as disability. Individuals who have this conditions are viewed as somehow different. A person with ADHD suffers a condition characterized by age inappropriate hyperactivity, impulsive and poor attention plan. Symptoms are severe enough to cause impairment in academic and social functioning. This may lead to low self-esteem, very poor academic performance and serious behavioral problems. Despite of these various problems, many of these children may have an underlying potential for greater achievement that one would expect. Associated qualities such as impulsiveness, insatiability, risk-taking and a need for greater challenges, an open focus of attention that is subject to distraction, and a unique individualized mode of thinking may not be rewarded if these symptoms may not be given any proper care. If these children will be provided enough care, the symptoms like impulsiveness could be viewed as a form of decisiveness, insatiability could be manifested as ambition, and distractibility could be seen as a form of creativity or open mindedness. That is why the project concept created id to have a school that depicts the characteristics of a playhouse in order for them to learn while playing.
